Asphalt composition shingles covering the roof of this home were installed with joints aligned vertically at every other course. Some were even diamond patterned roof shingles. For duration series shingles owens corning recommends using either a 4 or 6 nail fastening pattern depending on the roof s slope and building code requirements. Three tab shingles are usually 36 inches long.

Pattern curling is caused by the roofer having to lift the end tab of every other shingle to install the last shingle nail at the end of the next shingle.

This installation method is called racking racking is an improper installation method for many shingle types.
